Dean's Undergraduate Research Prize in 2011:
The Department of Economics is very pleased to announce that Tyson Hartwig has been selected to receive the Dean's Undergraduate Research Prize for his project "Voting on Team Compensation Schemes conducted with Dr. John Smith [Department of Economics]. We are very proud of his work under the guidance of our faculty member. The award will be presented at the Honors Convocation on May 12, 2011.
2010:
Kirk Groomes Jr., Dr. Tetsuji Yamada (Rutgers University), and Dr. Chia-Ching Chen (New York Medical College) have published a research paper entitled "Identifying Potential Grocery Store Locations in New Jersey" in the International Journal of Health and Nutrition, in October 2010, Vol.1, No.1, pp.13-30. Groomes graduated with degrees in Sociology and Economics in 2009 and is currently pursuing a Master's in Public Policy through the 5-year MPA program at Rutgers-Camden.
2009:
Matthew Miller with Dr. Tetsuji Yamada (Rutgers University), Dr. Chia-Ching Chen (New York Medical College), Dr. Tadashi Yamada (Tsukuba University in Japan), Haruko Noguchi (Department of Health, Welfare, and Labor of the Japanese Government) has published an article “Private Health Insurance and Hospitalization under Japanese National Health Insurance,” in the Open Economic Journal, in June 2009, Vol.2, pp.61-70. Miller graduated with the degree in Economics in 2009 and is currently a part-time graduate student in Mathematics Department at Rutgers University.

Dr. John D. Worrall
- Dr. Worrall's research paper, entitled "Wage and Injury Response to Shifts in Workplace Liability" has been published by Industrial and Labor Relations Review in 2008.
This paper examines the impact of a monumental change in tort liability law, the Federal Employers' Liability Act (FELA) of 1908. This shift from common law, by changing the way injured workers were compensated and the compensating wage differentials for risk bearing, set the stage for workers' compensation and other no-fault systems. Focusing on the New Jersey railroad system, the authors examine three periods: the pre-FELA years of 1900-1908; 1909-1911, when the FELA laws were the only changes in the common laws affecting some railroad workers; and 1912-1916, when both FELA and workers' compensation laws affected railroad workers. They find that as liability shifted to railroad companies, accident rates fell for three occupational groups who worked outdoors, but rose for railroad "craft" employees (who worked indoors in shops). They also find that wages shifted for all four of the major occupational groups as predicted by their model. - Dr. John D. Dr. Jinpeng Ma
- Dr. Jinpeng Ma has published “The Singleton Core in the College Admissions Problem and its Application to the National Resident Matching Program,” Games and Economic Behavior, 2010, 69 (1), 150-164.
- Dr. Ma presented his research work “Bubbles, Crashes and Efficiency with Double Auction Mechanisms” at the 20th International Conference of Game Theory at Stony Brook of SUNY in Stony Brook in July 2011.
- Dr. Ma is currently working on how to time the equity market. Is there anyone interested in creating a portfolio in the long run that beats the S&P500 with lower than the market risk measured by beta? Believe or not, there is a way to do this (research paper under review).
